Liane and Tyler tied the knot on a beautiful day in Orleans and then they went to Maxville to celebrate with family and friends at the family farm and reception hall. Jessica's Photoshoot

We finally had good weather to do Jessica's photoshoot. Jessica is a passionate photographer and it was quite an experience for her to be on the other side of the camera. Instructor's Exhibit

Ottawa School of Art

My wife, Patricia Laalo, has been teaching at the Ottawa School of Art for a few years and has submitted one of her wildlife paintings into the instructor's exhibit this year. It is exciting for her because one of her larger works was accepted. This piece is called "Soaring over cloud nine" painted in oil on canvas and the size is 72' x 24'. Also, she is taking part in the Instructor's Exhibit at the Shenkman Centre in Orleans where she has three of her larger wild-life pieces there. Both exhibits run until the end of August.

Ottawa Busker Festival 2010

It was fun to go downtown to see the busker festival this year. The chalk pastel artist got my attention the most. He was drawing from a famous photograph from a cover of a National Geographic Magazine of an Afgan girl. He's holding the image in his hand while drawing. It's amazing that he can draw so beautifully, especially to this large scale. I was also surprized to see a new statue of Oscar Peterson next to the NAC. I always had a feeling that Elivs is alive and I have a picture to prove it.

Sweet Angels

Lisa had asked me if we could get a photo of her with the kids at the wedding. When she sat on the stairs the cutie-pies knew exactly what to do and found thier places beside her. It was getting on in the evening and it had been a hot day, so it surprised me that they even sat for a few photos. They did really well and Lisa got her image : ) Good job to all of you sweet angels.

Top Five Photographers of Ottawa

I was pretty humbled by a recent vote in the Ottawa Metro Newspaper. Over the past couple of weeks I have been congratulated by friends and collegues telling me I have been voted one of the top five photographers in Ottawa. You can find me on page 33 in the Metro Newspaper on June 10th, 2010. The quote beside my name was pretty strong and made me feel good about my work: "One of the best wedding photographers I've ever seen." Thank-you Metro Newspaper and its readers for participating in this vote, it was a very nice surprise.

Ipad - Photographer's Choice

Last week-end's wedding shoot was a great opportunity for me to try out some of the features on my new Ipad. It is an excellent addition to my equipment, it is small and lightweight and it can carry a big selection of photos. The colour of the display is sharp and crisp and I think it will play a major role in the wedding photography business.

Trip to Rocky Mountains 2010

It was my first visit to the Rockies and definately not my last! I found the place extremely attractive, from the gorgeous scenery to the rich wildlife presence as well. This is one of my favourite places in the planet. I loved the cool temperatures, gorgeous colours and I cannot wait to get back there soon. I took too many pictures and the few on the bottom is a mix of wildlife and scenery of this heavenly place!!!

Lucy and Brad both love downtown scenery, so we walked through Spark's Street and made our way to Parliament Hill. I am always pleased and happy when I see my clients taking the engagement session seriously. It is also wonderful to work with great people with great personality and it is fun to capture that personality in the engagement shoot. Winterlude 2010

Every year my wife Patty-Lou joins the public challenge ice sculpting competition. This year she joined with her sister Val. They had only 3 hours to complete the carving and had only two chisels to work with (one person carving at a time). They were pleased to be invited to join the Canadian Ice Sculpture Society, and they also won first prize. It was a great trip for me to get outside to witness the competition.

Beautiful Sunset in February

It has been about two months now since I broke my ankle and I am finally able to get around a bit. After being stuck indoors it is really nice to take a few photos. I definately missed being outside. The two images below have been taken from the parkway (not too far to walk from the car). I felt so alive when I was taking these images below, it makes me eagre to get out more since I now have a walking cast.

RA Centre Photo Club Open House

A couple of friends had invited me to the open house at the RA Centre's Photo Club to view their exhibitions and workshops. It was interesting to see that the RA Centre offers many workshops in various photographic subjects, such as landscape, wildlife, nature, figure and portraiture. Stephanie & Ralph

It was a beautiful sunny day for Stephanie & Ralph! It was fun following them with our cameras throughout the day, especially with their high energy levels. They are both very sporty (Stephanie is a gymnist and Ralph into hockey). The ceremony was held in Smith Falls, we did most of the photo shooting at both parents houses. Both Stephanie & Ralph grew up in the same neighbourhood around water and water sports is in thier blood, so it was only natural to have a photo with a speed boat. They tied the knot in Calabogie. It turned out to be the most beautiful day regardless of Environment Canada's forcast. It was supposed to be raining with thunder and lightning, but, it did not happen where they got married. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the scenery as well. It was a cottage life wedding, very laid back and one of my few favourite weddings to photograph. The place offered a variety of beautiful backdrops. CANADA DAY 2009

We were lucky to have VIP tickets on the terrace of the NAC for the Canada Day fireworks. It was a beautiful evening, we could hear thunder in the distance but it did not affect the evening. We enjoyed the goodies and cocktails provided by the NAC and we made some new friends. We are a little late posting these images, but I have been asked by family and friends wondering "where are the firework photos?" So, here are a few Canada Day 2009 photos.

It was a beautiful wedding in a great place (Chateau Laurier). It had rained most of the day and by the evening the rain finally let up and gave the lucky couple a chance to enjoy the outdoors. Now there are leaves on the trees, the birds were singing and the beautiful gardens everywhere. It was a warm atmosphere and great party. Atefeh & Amir

This lovely couple were well prepared for their engagement shoot. Of course, this time of the year there could be no other colourful and beautiful backdrop than the blooms at the arboretum. The only complaint I had was my camera could not capture the scent of these gorgeous blooms. It was just breathtaking and it added to the romance to Atefeh and Amir's e-shoot. Last week-end we managed to shoot Amy & Craig's engagement session. We started from downtown and worked our way to the Rideau Centre (where we were escorted out by security just as we were finishing up our photoshoot). Ottawa Tulip Festival 2009

My wife, Patty-Lou and I have both submitted works to the Art Tent at the Ottawa Tulip Festival this year. Patty-Lou painted in acrylics this time (they are quick drying and she had a dead-line). Also, she is one of the festival Official Artists and will be painting on both Sundays that the festival will be running. I have enlarged one of my favourite tulip images titled "Colour of Morning". When I look at this photo, I can truly feel that chilly morning. I hope to see you at the festival.

In Memory of Karsh & Malak

These two photographers, Karsh & Malak, are always in the back of my mind (not only as idols but also where they came from), although I never had the chance to meet them, somehow I feel close to them. Perhaps it has something to do with how we had the same kind of journey coming to Canada (seeing a lot of unkindness and trying to put it behind while looking for something more positive, searching for beauty and colour). I have been reading a book about these two brothers and with spring here I felt it would be suitable to remember these remarkable brothers with these two following peices.

Portrait of Wonderful Friends

It was nice to spend some time with our friends this week-end (Kaissy, Jeff, Angela and Jay). A few years back Angela and Jay came to our former studio in Orleans to attend summer art camp and we became good friends with their mom & dad as well. Angela & Jay are absolutely talented, they entertained us with beautiful piano playing. After being entertained we went outside for a walk around Mer Bleue. I could not resist taking photos of this lovely family. Thanks you Kaissy, Jeff, Angela and Jay for a great afternoon. We hope to see more of Angela and Jay for piano performances.

The Italian Aerobatic Team otherwise known at Frecce Tricolori were in the Ottawa airshow in the early 90's. I remember it was my second time shooting the airshow. It was also my first time trying a zoom lens (75-300mm). I love how they created their nations flag with these beautiful colours. Not a bad image handheld at 300mm without IS. That day I shot about 3 rolls of film, and if I were shooting today, I would take about 3000 shots!!!

Arrival of Spring

Last Friday, March 20th was officially the first day of spring. Who better to celebrate the occassion than with all of the ducks and birds along the Ottawa River. There are so many varieties of birds arriving from the south, I spotted six pairs of wood ducks.

Team Work

In the past year I have been receiving emails from young photographers and also other photographers requesting to accompany me as a second shooter. I was overwhelmed and humbled with the interest in my style and the number of applicants. It made me realize that my website needed to be updated. Usually, my wife, Patty-Lou accompanies me as a second shooter and an assistant. I also have to mention that she is a fine-art painter and an expert in photoshop. Today we had an opportunity to take a portrait of ourselves to post in my website. I appreciate all of those people who have contacted me, I will keep you in mind if I ever find myself stuck, thank-you for your interest.

Tricks of the Trade

The samples below show an example of what we can accomplish from one image (colour close-up & sepia close-up cropped from the third image). Each picture has been cropped, colour corrected, filters added and other necessary work in photoshop. Although you can see how all three images are beautiful, they each all have different impression and mood. We take our time in photoshop with every project and our main focus is to produce high quality photos.

The final week-end of

WINTERLUDE 2009

It was the final week-end for winterlude and on Saturday they held a competition for armature ice-carvers. Patty-Lou (my wife) participated in the competition as she has been doing for the past 3 years. It was a beautiful sunny day, there was a tonne of activities, there were First Nation Dancers, a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada, beavertails (of course), and the best part is Patty-Lou won 2nd place in the ice carving competition. Thanks to all family members and friends who showed up for the competition.

Happy Valentine's Day

Winterlude 2009

Wishing everyone the best on Valentine's Day. We had a great time on the canal for a beavertail, hot chocolate and the Sound and Light Show: Ukiuk at the American Express Snowbowl hosted by the NCC. We ended our evening with a live concert by Roch Voisine, who sang a lot of his old songs and brought back a lot of good memories. It was fun, we had an awesome time.

STAR OF OTTAWA

A couple of weeks ago CBC radio was talking about a northern owl visiting Ottawa. CBC radio also provided directions on where to find this rare hawk owl. I visited the site a few times with not much luck of getting a good shot of him. I've met quite a few of Ottawa's bird lovers and wild-life photographers, some with the biggest lenses possible aiming at the hawk owl. It has been fun and interesting. This was my 4th approach, and I got lucky enough to get a fairly good shot. He sat very calmly and gently in front of my camera, and I was very happy with these shots.

Italian Kitchen

January is a month of many birthdays in our family. We celebrated my mother-in-law's 60th, and my niece's 21st in Biagio's Italian Kitchen on Saturday. We enjoyed an wonderful, warm ambiance, a variety of delicious choices from the menu, along with the laughter and smiles of family and friends. We had booked one of the party rooms which was an added comfort, allowing us to feel at home with the family. On top of everything, no one had to do the dishes.

First post of the year!

We went snowshoeing today for first time this season. At first it was quiet with no sign of wildlife on the trail. When we stopped and listened, slowly we could hear some small noises. We saw a few chickadees, nuthatches and the usual suspects (ducks). The chickadee in the image below had a little nap for about one full minute on a branch a few feet from us.

Parisa & Ramtin

Parisa and Ramtin's wedding took place at the Sala San Marco in little Italy in a beautifully decorated hall. After the ceremony we went to the Museum of Civilization for a quick photo shoot. In spite of the slushy, wet weather, Parisa and Ramtin did really well infront of the camera. Their wedding was full of high energy and joy, they did non-stop dancing all through the night. Congratulations to the two lovebirds.

Logan arrived three weeks ago, he seems to be a busy guy...demanding attention from everyone... from his Mom & Dad and both Grandmas. So far he's been doing a really good job bringing everyone together. He brought his Grandma, Freda, all the way from B.C., and his Daddy all the way from over seas. It was fun to see how everyone enjoyed Logan.
